There is a good variety of sea, game and coarse fishing to be had on the Lleyn Peninsula and the surrounding countryside.

You will need a Welsh Water Licence to fish for all game species in additional to your local permits or permission to fish.

Game Fishing - Lakes and Reservoirs


Cwm Ystradllyn Reservoir
Gardolbenmaen, Gwynedd
Managed by Pwllheli Angling Association. Brown and Rainbow Trout. The reservoir is fished by any method, except maggot and ground-baiting. The water is "gin clear", which can be very productive for fly fishing. Permits are available from

Game Fishing - Rivers


Afon Erch
Managed by Pwllheli Angling Association, some stocking occurs, abundance of wild brown trout and good runs of seatrout and salmon later on in the year. Permits from D E Hughes Fishing Tackle, Pwllheli.


Dwyfor
Managed by Dwyfor Angling Association who release trout to support the natural stock. Also salmon and sea trout. For further information contact The Tackle Shop, High Street, Criccieth, where permits are also available.

There are numerous other small rivers around the area, Aberdaron, Abersoch, Rhyd Hir in Pwllheli, all teeming with wild brown trout. You will need to approach the landowner, normally the nearest farm, to ask for permission.

Sea Fishing


Over 40 miles of rugged coastline, rocks, sandy beaches and piers for day and night fishing. Good for most species, especially Bass, Cod, Pollock, Rays, Conger and an abundance of Mackerel during the summer months. No permit required. Fresh baits available at the local fishing and tackle shops.
